Yes, you have heard it correctly, eSports in the Olympic Games can be more real than you would think. Actually, the International e-Sports Federation (IeSF) submitted a request to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) regarding eSports integration process to the Olympic games. The answer was definitely positive.

IOC accepted and responded the advanced request, furthermore, detailed the whole process and the next steps to be followed in order to make e-Sports as an acknowledged Olympic sport. According to predictions, eSports in the Olympic games will be registered by 2020.

The IeSF, a Korean based global organization focusing on digital gaming, introduced the request in February. Roughly 2 months later, IOC has encouraged the idea and promised to help in working out the guidelines and managing the process.

The authorization method doesn’t seem to be complicated based on the IeSF secretary general, David Lim’s words. As he said in a report, applicants have to fill in a form regarding the popularity, history, governance and the development of eSports. The evaluation process of all these factors are expected to start in December.

If this new form of Olympic sports will be signed into law, all the players around the world can participate in the most prestigious sports events of the history. That would generate a real ovation from the view of digital gamesters and it seems they don’t need to wait for it too long.
