Usain Bolt Clinches Third Olympic Gold for 100m Dash in the Rio Final (Bet on Olympics)

The Jamaican has clocked 9.81s during his 100m sprint in last night’s final that saw him collect his third Olympic gold in that event – bet on Olympics!

Yet again, it seems that as long as Usain Bolt is an active sprinter no other man will have a chance to claim gold. After finishing the 100m final with 9.81s, the 29-year-old claimed his third Olympic gold in that discipline, and seventh Olympic gold overall.

Bolt was joined on the podium by USA’s Justin Gatlin (9.89s) and Canada’s Andre De Grasse (9.91s), who were the only other men that could usurp his reign, per online sportsbook odds.

“After the semi-final I felt extremely good,” commented Bolt, before confessing it was a test for him to have a shorter break in between the races than usual. “I wanted to run faster but with the turnaround time, we normally have two hours, but we had one hour 20 minutes, it was challenging. This is what we train for. I told you guys I was going to do it. Stay tuned, two more to go.”

Right before the event, the crowd seemed to boo at Gatlin – who was banned from competing for four years between 2006 and 2010 after testing positive for steroid use – as he entered the stadium, and Bolt admitted he has ‘shocked’ at their response. “I was surprised. It is the first time I have come into a stadium and they booed someone. It was shocking.”

Bolt will now be eyeing his eight Olympic medal at the 200m event, for which he is the undisputed favourite 1.083 (1/12). All the other runners are deemed outsiders: Justin Gatlin 13.00 (12/1), Andre de Grasse 19.00 (18/1), LaShawn Merrit 21.00 (20/1), Yohan Blake 34.00 (33/1) and others.

The only competition that could see Bolt not win gold is the 4x100m Relay event, where he depends on his fellow countrymen, who are almost always behind him in individual events. Nonetheless, Jamaica carries favourite status with odds of 1.33 (1/3), while USA is right behind them 3.25 (9/4). Great Britain 23.00 (22/1), France 26.00 (25/1) and Canada 29.00 (28/1) are all heavy underdogs for this event as well.
