The charismatic Brazilian agreed to move back to Chelsea on a three-year deal, merely two years after moving to PSG in a deal that made him the world’s most expensive defender in the history of football. The Parisiens paid a whopping £50 million to acquire him during the World Cup in Brazil, however now he returns to Stamford Bridge for two-thirds of that fee, with the deal reported to be worth £34 million – making it one of the biggest transfers of transfer deadline day. In his first stint with the Blues, the 29-year-old made 143 appearances during which he won the Champions League and the FA Cup in 2011/12, and the Europa League the following season.

After countless rumours linking Islam Slimani to Premier League rivals Arsenal, Leicester City have completed a solid piece of business on transfer deadline day by signing Algerian striker Slimani for £30 million from Sporting Lisbon. Despite losing N’Golo Kante to Chelsea, the Foxes managed to retain the most important crop of players that won them the Premier League last season. Slimani will now complement Jamie Vardy up front as manager Claudio Ranieri aims to defend the title with an imposing attack, although they’re deemed outsiders 67.00 (66/1) to win outright, per online sportsbook Bet365.

Midfielder Moussa Sissoko seemed bound for Everton, however Tottenham swooped in the final moments of the transfer deadline day to seal his signature from Newcastle for a reported £30 million. The appeal of Champions League football perhaps proved too irresistible for the French international, as the Spurs prepare to take on CSKA Moscow, Bayer Leverkusen and Monaco in Group E of Europe’s elite competition. Sissoko came close to playing in the Champions League in the 2007/08 season when he played for Touloue, however his former side were knocked out of the qualifiers by Liverpool. Now, nine years later, he’ll finally taste the action of the biggest football competition on the continent.

Wilshere’s future at the Emirates came into question towards the end of the transfer window, with reports linking him to several clubs abroad. However, the 24-year-old opted to stay in the Premier League with a season-long loan move to Bournemouth where he will attempt to rediscover his form. It’s likely he’ll be given more opportunities at his new club, as Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger currently has four top notch midfield players in Ozil, Cazorla, Ramsey and latest recruit Xhaka – all players that operate in the center of the pitch.

After an unimpressive loan with former side AC Milan last season – during which he found the back of the net only once in Serie A – Jurgen Klopp has decided that he’s surplus to requirements at Anfield. Ligue 1 side Nice came calling in the final moments of the transfer deadline day, and Liverpool were desperate to let go of the Italian, so the French club signed him up for free. At only 26 years of age, Balotelli still has time on his hands prove his worth and fight his way back into contention for the national selection.

Alvaro Arbeloa – Real Madrid to West Ham United (Free Transfer)

Transfer Deadline Day - Alvaro Arbeloa

After making only nine appearances overall for Real Madrid last season, Arbeloa decided to return to the Premier League with West Ham snapping him up for free from the 11-time Champions League winners. The 33-year-old brings a great deal of experience to Slaven Bilic’s squad, as they’ll aim to improve on their 7th place finish last season in the English top flight. During his time with Los Blancos, Arbeloa won two Champions League titles, one La Liga and two Copa del Rey crowns, among many other titles. In addition to that, Bilic will boast a player that’s also enjoyed great success with the national side by clinching two Euro Championships and one World Cup with Spain. His winning mentality will resonate volumes with other players in the dressing room that will likely transcend to their performances on the pitch.
