Atletico Madrid sponsorship deal with Plus500 first came about midway through the 2014/15 campaign, however their deal stipulated they be assigned a less prominent placement, being featured on the back of the shirts, while then main sponsor Azerbaijan (‘The Land of Fire’) retained its position on the front of the shirts. According to Finance Magnates, industry sources believe that securing a placement on the back of the shirts cost Plus500 somewhere between €1-1.5 million.

However, the following season the club’s hierarchy decided to make Plus500 their main sponsorship partner, allowing them to be emblazed on the front of the shirts. Neither the club nor the online trading platform have released any details pertaining to the financial value of the extension, but it is speculated that Atletico have received €11 million per season, based on the original contract before agreeing to the new deal.

Atletico Madrid sponsorship deal with the online platform allows the club’s fans to qualify for special offers when trading with Plus500.

Miguel Angel Gil Marin, Atletico’s chief executive, expressed his pleasure at signing an extension with the online trading platform, which he hopes will continue to strengthen their squad and help achieve new targets in the years to come.

“We are delighted to have extended the partnership agreement with Plus500,” said the chief exec. “We believe that this partnership has proved itself to date and is supporting our growth and progress. We look forward to continuing our journey with them.”

Atletico shocked the football world when they won the Spanish league in 2013/14, becoming the first side in La Liga to break the hegemony of Barcelona and Real Madrid since Valencia, who clinched the league title ten years prior. What could have been an even greater achievement if they would have lifted the Champions League title in any one of the two occasions in three years, however they came up short both times in the final of the elite competitions against cross-town rivals Real Madrid, in 2014 and 2016.

Sadly for them, the domestic league hasn’t been favourable to Atletico this season; they find themselves in fourth position on the table with only 31 points from 17 rounds in the Spanish top flight. Their fierce rivals Real Madrid – the only undefeated side in La Liga this season – sit atop the table with nine points ahead of the Rojiblancos.

Although repeating the glorious title-winning campaign of 2013/14 remains quite unlikely, Atletico have been firing on all cylinders in the Champions League, having claimed a whopping 15 points from the group stage, which saw Bayern Munich pushed resort to a second place finish in Group D.
