Barcelona’s New Nike Deal Set to be Worth €100 Million per Season

The Catalan giants are looking to extend their partnership with American sportswear company Nike that would net them €1 billion over 10 years.

As it stands, Barcelona’s Nike deal currently runs until 2018, but reports indicate a new improved deal is being discussed between the club hierarchy and the sports company. Barcelona’s new agreement with Nike will see them bank €100 million per season, which will effectively become the biggest shirt sponsorship deal in football history.

This season marks the sixth time the Catalan side have clinched La Liga in eight seasons, while also winning Champions League on four occasions since 2006. With a star-studded squad capable of conquering Europe for years to come, it makes sense for Nike to tie down to a long-term agreement with Barcelona.

According to reports, Barcelona currently receive €35 million per season to have Nike as their shirt manufacturer, but the new deal could see them bank in nearly three times as much. The Spanish club have donned Nike as their official kit supplier since 1998, and the new deal would extend that partnership to three decades. If this would be realized all the way through – without Barcelona signing with another supplier in the meantime – it would be one of the longest sponsorship agreements in world football.

It is speculated that they’re looking to sign a 10-year sponsorship extension agreement, which would kick in after the current deal, lasting until the end of 2017-18, runs out. Barcelona’s Nike deal would put them in same bracket as Manchester United, who currently receive around €95 million per season (£75 million) from rival company Adidas.

Chelsea Nike Deal

Nike will replace Adidas as Chelsea’s shirt supplier from 2017-18

Besides Barcelona’s Nike deal, the American sports manufacturer will also be taking over from Adidas as the main kit supplier for Premier League side Chelsea. According to Financial Times, the Blues are preparing to sign a decade-long deal worth a massive £600 million (€780 million), which is twice as much than they’re currently receiving from the German sports manufacturer.

Nike’s presence in London has diminished in recent years, with them missing out on extending their 20-year association with Arsenal, with rivals Puma taking over in 2014 for £30 million per season (€39 million). There have also been reports earlier in the year of a potential deal with Tottenham, however no further developments have emerged since then.

Barcelona’s Nike deal will ensure the club continue adding star players season after season, while also keeping the current crop of players by tying them down to new, improved contracts. With them looking to get €100 million annually from Nike, we will likely be seeing a Messi, Neymar and Suarez in every position on the pitch.

Luis Enrique’s men will face Sevilla this Sunday (May 22) in the Copa del Rey final, for which they’re the absolute favourites to win 1.28 (2/7), per online sportsbook Bet365. The Andalusian side are outsiders 8.00 (7/1), while a draw stands at 6.00 (5/1).

In England, Manchester United will play Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final this Saturday (May 21), which could see the Red Devils salvage a small part of their season, after missing out on the Champions League for next season. Louis van Gaal’s men are viewed as the favourite side 1.75 (3/4), while a tie between the two stands at 3.60 (13/5), per online sportsbook Bet365. A victory for the Eagles is unlikely, considering their limited chances 5.75 (19/4).
