Manchester City Defender Demichelis is accused of breaching 12 of the English Football Association’s (FA) E8 rules. All of the rules broken were related to football matches played in January 2016.
According to an announcement released on Tuesday, the FA rules E8 is applicable to the top eight division’s players of English football. However, the rule bans taking bets related to football anywhere in the world. Manchester City Defender Demichelis is charged with betting on football matches.
Between the period of 22-28 January when he has taken bets, his team played against Everton and West Ham. However, report on Goal.com suggests that “there is no suggestion” that Manchester City was involved in Demichelis’ betting activity. Other report published on news talk.com says it is still not known whethet he bet on Manchester city games.
Based on the latest rules of FA which came into effect on August 2014, players, managers and any football related staff are not allowed to bet on football.
Despite of the straightforward rules of FA, there are still some wrongdoings. Back in 2014 Tanmere Rovers manager Ronnie Moore had to left the team due to breaching the rules.
In 2013 the Tottenham winger Andros Townsend was banned for 4 months for the same reason. Manchester City hopes if Demichelis found guilty he would get a fine instead of a ban.
