DFS regulation in Iowa could be the second stage of the DFS legalization trend in the USA. After Virginia gambling laws broke the ice with legalizing DFS at first, as it was predictable, other states are planning to introduce the same legislation. This time, Iowa is considering to legalize and regulate the operation of the two biggest DFS companies, DraftKings and FanDuel.
The legislation plan includes information about the possible taxes and fees. It is also included in the DFS market would be supervised by the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission. It seems the four-year-long struggle in terms of Iowa DFS legislation will be solved soon. Or at least we all hope so.
Illinois Can’t Decide Yes or No
After the legislative hearing held on Tuesday at Iowa Capitol, decision makers were positive about the outcome of the proposal. The legislation plan which addressed the DFS regulation in Iowa had many advocates. However, there are some states which are still hesitating to allow daily fantasy sports, like Illinois. Despite the Attorney General made it clear that DFS is illegal in the state, the bill is still waiting for reconsideration, since the General Assembly has a different view of it.
Arguing Opinions Over DFS Regulation in Iowa
The biggest operators are behind the idea of the legalization of DFS in Iowa. However, it doesn’t mean that there is no opposition against it. Especially land-based casinos are showing animosity towards the DFS legalization attempts. According to some politicians, like Dan Kelley who is serving at the House of Representatives in Iowa, DFS regulation will produce more gambling addiction in the state. Arguing with this view, Democrat Iowa State senator Jeff Danielson stated that DFS is a game of skill and not a game of chance. Therefore, as he says in the report published at Quad City Times, “it is crucial to classify fantasy sports as a game of skill, not chance, and regulate it as such.” By saying that, he expressed his hopes regarding DFS regulation in Iowa.
