During his first official press conference as the new Man United boss, Jose Mourinho blatantly outlined his aggressive plans by stating, “I want everything!” Instead of just aiming to for a top-four finish, he wants to his team to have a winning mind-set that could potentially see them lift the Premier League crown next season.

“I was never very good at hiding behind words or philosophies. I was always much more aggressive in my approach, with the risks it can bring,” said the 53-year-old. “It would be easy, honest and pragmatic for me to focus on the last three years, and the fact we didn’t qualify for the Champions League, and to say ‘let’s work, let’s try to be back in the top-four, let’s try to do well in the Europa League.’ ”

“But I am not good at that, and I don’t want to be good. I prefer to be more aggressive and to be more aggressive is to say ‘we want to win,’ .I want everything. I want to win matches, play well, play young players, score goals, not concede goals,” The Special One stressed. “I want the fans to be behind us not because we are chasing a result in the last 10 minutes but because we are defending a result.”

“Of course we are not going to get everything, but we want to. I don’t hide that I am chasing Sir Alex Ferguson’s record of Champions League matches. Hopefully it is only one season that we are not there. And when I say ‘we,’ obviously the club is more important than myself, and Manchester United is a Champions League club.”

Jose Mourinho will go up against old foe Pep Guardiola who took over cross-town rivals Man City

With Mourinho’s arrival, Manchester United’s odds of securing their first league title since Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure in 2013 increased instantly. They are now second favourites 4.50 (7/2) to lift the trophy in May next year, while cross-town rivals Man City are at the top of the odds chart 3.25 (9/4), per online sportsbook Bet365. There are likely to be new recruits coming through the doors of both clubs, which will undoubtedly see their chances of Premier League success fluctuate until the season stars on August 13.

The Special One has more than five years of management experience in the English top flight during his two stints as Chelsea manager (2004-7 and 2013-15), which has seen him win the Premier League on three occasions in the two spells. For Guardiola on the other hand this will be a completely new experience and perhaps his most challenging task to date, despite having managed two world-class sides in Barcelona and Bayern Munich. Like Mourinho, the Catalan has won two Champions League trophies, however his European triumph came only with Barcelona as he failed to deliver that during his three-year stay in Bavaria.

History shows that Mourinho can transform under-performing sides into champions (both domestically and in Europe), while it is generally perceived that Guardiola’s success comes down to him inheriting a world-class team that’s already filled to the brim with superstar players.

Arsenal are third favourites 6.50 (11/2), however we don’t really view them as serious title contenders, despite finishing second in the league last season. Arsene Wenger splashed the cash for midfielder Xhaka, however his pursuits of strikers Benzema and Aubameyang seem to have cooled off for now, while the sole hope of Arsenal supporter remains the capture of Spanish star Morata. We reckon they’ll stick to their tradition of finishing fourth, as they have in countless previous seasons.

Chelsea’s new boss Antonio Conte has enjoyed a fair share of success with Juventus by clinching three consecutive Seria A titles between 2012 and 2014, before deciding to take up the head post for Italian national side. He’s new to English football, which can be said of Man City boss Guardiola as well, however there are a number of items that have to sorted out with the squad before the Blues can be considered title challengers; their odds now stand at 7.50 (13/2).
