The Cavaliers won the NBA championship last season for the first time in their 46-year-old history thanks to their coach Tyronn Lue, who was appointed midway through the 2015-16 season after former coach David Blatt got fired from his post.
The Cavs made a historic achievement in the Finals last season when they managed to fight back from a 3-1 deficit against the Golden State Warriors to a win the NBA title with an overall 4-3 victory. Despite lifting the title the Cavs are second favourites +350 (4.50) for the championship in the coming season, while the Warriors seem to be the team to beat – they maintain favourite status for the title -125 (1.80). The San Antonio Spurs +800 (9.00) are right behind them on the odds chart, while Boston Celtics +1800 (19.00) and the Los Angeles Clippers +2000 (21.00) are fourth and fifth favourites for the NBA title.

Lue has taken up studying game plans from San Antonio, Portland, the Los Angeles Clippers, Boston and Dallas in efforts to devise a scheme that could see the Cavs defend their NBA title, despite being second favourites per Intertops Sports. Not being content with his historic achievement against the Warriors last season, Lue is looking for ways to improve his team believing ‘there’s always room to get better.’
“I wouldn’t say it motivates me, but there is always room to grow, there’s always room to get better,” said the 39-year-old coach. “I know I inherited a great team, but I’m not going to have a great team my whole career, so I’ve got to continue to look for ways to get better.”
