Mauricio Pochettino has led Spurs to second place (70 points) in the Premier League this season, defying all odds set by online sportsbooks at the beginning of the year. All they need is one point from their last game to cement the 2nd position from their arch-rivals Arsenal, who are in 3rd with 2 points less. The club’s hierarchy recognized the Argentinian’s great work by rewarding him with a contract extension that will see him stay at White Hart Lane until 2021.
Tottenham Chairman, Daniel Levy, released a statement on the club’s official website highlighting Mauricio Pochettino’s massive influence and energy that will have probably seen them achieve their highest standing since 1963. “We have seen Mauricio bring a tremendous spirit and ethos to our Club and embrace the attacking style of play with which we have always been associated,” the chairman said. “He has built a squad of youth and experience and this season we have seen football played at the highest level – quite sublime at times.”
Daniel Levy also added, “Everyone at the Club is delighted he has agreed an extended contract and we all look forward to working with him in the coming seasons. I know he is as ambitious for our Club as we all are.”

A number of online sportsbooks have outlined the Tottenham boss as one of the top favourites to take over the managerial post at Old Trafford next season, however the announcement of the contract extension puts an end to those links.
Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino expressed his delight at signing the new five-year agreement, as he hopes to continue challenging for the top with the North London side. “I could not be happier to sign this new contract. It was an easy decision for my coaching staff and I because we can feel the appreciation of everyone here – there is no better place to be right now,” said the South American manager.
Online sportsbook Bet365 currently ranks Mauricio Pochettino’s men fifth favourite to lift the title next season 8.00 (7/1). Spurs will face Newcastle at St. James Park in their last game of the season, and to clinch a second place finish all they need is a draw 3.75 (11/4). To be fair, Tottenham will likely win this match 1.80 (4/5), considering the form they’re enjoying. A win for the home side is quite unlikely 4.20 (16/5), but regardless of the result they’re nonetheless going to be relegated to the Football League Championship.
