The Danish striker – the world’s best player – will play in The Championship next season with Nottingham Forest. (We’re just kidding about the ‘world’s best player’ status, but we are serious about his move to the Reds.)
Former Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner has agreed a deal with Nottingham Forest on a two-year contract, or would it be more precise to have a reverse line saying: ‘a club has actually agreed to give the Danish frontman a chance to prove himself in the second tier of English football.’
‘The world’s best player’ joins the Tricky Trees after German side Wolfsburg decided to let him go on a free, allowing him to complete a Bosman transfer, which isn’t affected by transfer windows. (It is believed the Germans are now trying to sign him back, after fans took to the streets in massive protests about his departure from the Volkswagen Arena. Lord Bendtner is credited with bringing them close to Champions League glory thanks to his stunning goal haul.)

The 28-year-old joined Arsenal’s youth academy in 2004 and managed to make a few appearances in the 2005/06 campaign. The following season he broke into the first team where he showed great promise by scoring 5 goals in 27 Premier League appearances (9 strikes in 40 app overall). In the 2008/09 season, Bendtner established himself as a future Ballon d’Or candidate, after notching 15 goals in 50 outings for Arsenal across all competitions. (He soon realized that the ‘sky is the limit,’ which probably explains why so many of his balls went over the bar.)

However, his short success was blighted by injuries and a loss in form, which led manager Arsene Wenger to loan him out to Sunderland and Juventus – which saw him pick up a Serie A title with the latter – before making a disastrous decision in 2014 by agreeing to sell the world’s best player to German side Wolfsburg. After a prosperous two seasons in the Bundesliga, which saw him score an impressive 9 goals in 47 appearances overall, Lord Bendtner stunned the world by agreeing to play in the second tier of English football. (We’re guessing that he wanted to really challenge himself, as it got too easy for him to score goals against German defenders.)

On international duty, Bendtner has so far made 74 appearances for Denmark, representing them at the 2010 World Cup and the 2012 European Championship. Since the world’s best player made his first debut for the national side in 2006, he has, quite surprisingly, been a solid goalscorer, which saw him find the back of the net 29 times, leaving him with a goals-to-appearances ratio of 0.39. His 29 goals tie him in 7th place with Henning Enoksen on the all-time goalscorers list for Denmark.
‘Bendtner has 29 goals for Denmark, while Messi has 0 goals for Denmark. Haters will say Messi is Argentine.’ – 9GAG source (revised).
Despite being a prolific goal-machine that puts the likes of Ronaldo and Messi to shame, it’s unlikely that he’ll bag another 20 goals in his international career, which would make him come close to the top of the goalscorers chart for Denmark; Poul ‘Tist’ Nielsen and Jon Dahl Tomasson are tied in first place with 52 goals. (Staying true to his humble demeanour, it was probably Lord Bendtner’s plan all along not to break yet another record, for fear of being perceived as a God among mortals.)
